How Do We “Do Good & Have Fun?"

We are in the midst of an incredible shift in the United States, from awareness to hyperawareness around getting into action to support causes we are passionate about. There is so much more to do and learn, and many of us are looking for ways to make an impact. Getting involved doesn’t have to be difficult or boring.

If you are looking for ways to support good causes and volunteer, there are plenty of simple and fun ways to “Do Good & Have Fun.” Here are three tips to do just that.

1. Host a Party

Get your friends together to benefit your favorite nonprofit organization. This can be as simple as an online fundraiser for a cause, a basket for donations at your next brunch or an all-out day party with proceeds going to a good cause.

For example, my group of transcontinental friends decided to host #Popup4Good. It’s a charity social in Santa Monica on Saturday, July 27th that includes bespoke wellness treatments, amazing women-owned products we want to share, signature cocktails, live DJs, and a beautiful beachfront venue that benefits two of our favorite charities GirlRising and Code to Inspire.

2. Start Your Own Social Media Challenge

Challenge your friends, acquaintances and followers to call or write their local representative to be heard, and then post with a pic or hashtag, afterwards! As the CEO of RightSciences, it has been a necessity to work with Washington State policy groups on issues like tax reform for adult use markets. Planning fun day trip to visit the Washington State Capital with friends, helped us all gain insight into the local and national conversation, and a voice heard by our congressional reps.

Here’s a link to help your friends find their representative. https://www.house.gov/representatives/find-your-representative

Have fun with your hashtags and have fun doing your part. #PopUp4Good #CallYourRep

3. Have a Skip Day

Pick a day of the week or month to skip your favorite vice! Use a simple gifting app like Millie or OneToday and donate that money to something you feel great about supporting. You probably won’t miss it, and the impact from your #SkipDay4Good, will add up over time.

If you can’t live without your daily dose of whatever adult use product you adore, perhaps give the gift of time. Turn that binge watching time into a #Time4Good, and give yourself some endorphins by giving back a couple hours a week, month or year.

Check out Match4Action or DoSomething.org to find volunteer opportunities in your area! Getting out, meeting new people and volunteering can be a lot of fun. If you aren’t the social type, you can even find remote volunteer opportunities to do from home like writing, editing, coding, and teaching. The United Nations Volunteers (UNV) and VolunteerMatch have directories of online volunteer work.

There is a lot of work to be done to create a more equitable existence for EVERYONE. The sheer size of this should not deter us all from doing our part and having fun. If ALL of us start small, we can create BIG change.
