Whatever does Anandamide (AEA) have to do with a popular, old comedy series on national TV? I will get to that. But first, AEA is an endocannabinoid and neurotransmitter that is an analogue to the THC found in cannabis. In nature, anandamide is commonly found in two plants: Cacao (Chocolate) and Cannabis.
On past episode of 2 Broke Girls, currently in syndication, the show focused on doing a satire on drug addiction and use, where Han gets hooked on pure Cacao powder (chocolate) after consuming a low alcohol, high cacao drink in a bar. I imagine Whitney Cummings, the comic who writes 2 Broke Girls, was aware of this fact about cacao and used it thoughtfully as the basis of the satire.
For those of you interested in learning more about AEA it is a powerful regulator of the both the central nervous system and the immune system. Let me list some of the more interesting effect of AEA. It helps facilitate and inhibit connections in the hippocampus related to memory. In fact, too much AEA normally means a problem with memory – take note if you smoke too much weed. AEA also plays a role hunger. Too much AEA results in hunger and even binge eating.
AEA also regulates pleasure and pain. The more AEA floating around the system, the more the happiness and bliss and the less likely a person is to feel anxious or depressed. Since AEA disappears fairly quickly, these feelings are not sustained over time.
AEA also inhibits certain cancers especially breast cancer, protects the brain and heart and battles hypertension. The list goes on and on. It improves the immune system, sleep disorders and relaxes uterine spasms.
